Led by Melissa Hughes (Principal Speech Pathologist and founder), The Communication Studio is a small private Speech Pathology clinic dedicated to helping our clients flourish through authentic, accessible care.
Mel brings a perspective gained through 18 years of clinical experience in the local area combined with first hand experiences in the complexities of living life as an AuDHD-er (a person who is both Autistic and ADHD), and parenting multiply neurodivergent children.
The Communication Studio is a safe and inclusive space where everyone is welcome and respected, diversity is celebrated, strengths and challenges are explored and problems are solved. We work to provide people with effective, shame free, non-judgemental support to reach their communication goals in ways that prioritise their long term wellbeing.
We are a clinic where you can be your most genuine self. We support individuals of all ages and stages to build practical communication skills that work for their life to honour their autonomy and identity.
Hi, I'm Mel!
I'm the Principal Speech Pathologist here at The Communication Clinic. I have 18 years of clinical experience in the local area and first hand experiences of the complexities of living life as an AuDHD-er (a person who is both Autistic and ADHD), and parenting multiply neurodivergent children.
Throughout my career, I have worked with infants, children, young adults, adults, and seniors from diverse backgrounds and lifestyles. My passion is in supporting individuals of all ages and stages to build on their everyday communication skills - whatever that looks like for them. I firmly believe in using personalised and responsive approaches to meet each person's specific needs and circumstances.
The Communication Studio recognises the importance of acknowledging and respecting the traditional custodians of the lands where we operate. We acknowledge the Bunurong/Boon Wurrung and Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Peoples of the Kulin Nation, on whose lands we are privileged to live, work and play. We pay our sincere respects to the Elders, past, present, and emerging of lands we are on, and the lands which we visit. We honor their deep connection to land, culture, and community. We acknowledge that sovereignty has never been ceded, and we affirm that this has always been, and will always be Aboriginal Land. We strive to foster allyship and are guided by the leadership and self-determination of First Nations Peoples.
The Communication Studio strives to create a safe and inclusive space where everyone is welcome and respected. We celebrate and value diversity, and we firmly stand against any form of discrimination, racism, ableism, stigma, and oppression. We celebrate and affirm people of all ethnicities, faiths, sexual orientations, and gender identities.
The Communication Studio is a proudly neurodivergent affirming practice. We recognise each persons strengths, not just their challenges and strive to provide effective, shame free, non-judgemental support that prioritises long term wellbeing.
